Canadian police have announced the arrest of a fourth Indian national, Amandeep Singh, in relation to the killing of Sikh Separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada last year. The 22-year-old has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.


Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer said that civilian employees of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) have replaced 76 Indian military personnel withdrawn from the Maldives. HAL is the manufacturer of the two Dhruv helicopters India gifted to the Maldives.


India was among the 143 countries that supported Palestine’s bid for membership in the UN General Assembly on Friday. Nine countries, including the US and Israel, voted against the resolution, while 25 countries abstained. While the move does not give Palestine full UN membership, it recognises it as qualified to join and extends new rights. 


The death toll from flash floods and cold lava flow triggered by a volcano in western Indonesia has climbed to 41, with 17 individuals still missing. The catastrophe unfolded over the weekend when prolonged heavy rain dislodged large volcanic rocks from Sumatra island’s highly active volcano. The debris cascaded into two districts while flooding submerged roads, residences, and mosques.


On Friday, a spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry strongly opposed the misuse of export control mechanisms, such as the US entity list. This statement came after the US placed 37 Chinese companies on a trade restriction list due to national security concerns. Some of these entities were targeted for their involvement in producing drones for the Chinese military, while others were implicated in shipping controlled items to Russia.


Iraq’s oil minister announced Sunday that Chinese companies secured an additional five bids to explore oil and gas fields in the country. This comes as Iraq’s hydrocarbon exploration licensing round entered its second day. Chinese companies have dominated the bidding, being the sole foreign participants in securing bids thus far.
